Sankat Mochan Hanuman Temple, Varanasi

Sankat Mochan Hanuman Temple is one of the most revered Hanuman temples in India, situated near the Assi River in Varanasi. Founded by the great poet-saint Tulsidas (author of Ramcharitmanas) in the 16th century, the temple's name means 'Reliever of Troubles.' Monkeys roam freely in the premises as they are considered Hanuman's attendants and army. The temple is famous for its annual Sankat Mochan Sangeet Samaroh, one of India's oldest and most prestigious classical music festivals attracting musicians from across the world.
