Enter through the main gate. Join the darshan queue or the Aksharabhyasam queue (separate). The temple is on the banks of the Godavari River. Remove footwear before entering.
Take darshan of Goddess Gnana Saraswati. This is one of only two Saraswati temples in India (the other being in Kashmir). The idol shows the Goddess holding a Veena and scriptures.
For the Aksharabhyasam ceremony (formal introduction of a child to education), purchase a Rs 100 or Rs 1000 ticket. The priest writes letters by guiding the child's hand on a slate with rice. The child must be at least 2.6 years old.
After darshan, visit the Godavari River ghat behind the temple. Many devotees take a dip in the sacred river. The riverside setting adds to the spiritual experience.
