Enter through the east-facing gopuram and proceed through the outer prakarams of this five-walled temple complex.
Proceed to the main sanctum to see the Appu Lingam (Water Lingam). The lingam is partially submerged in water from an underground spring that never dries up.
Visit the shrine of Goddess Akilandeswari, one of the most powerful manifestations of the Divine Mother. Note the special Shiva earrings (Thadaagam) installed by Adi Shankaracharya to pacify her fierce energy.
Walk through the five concentric walls (prakarams) of the temple, each with its own gateway and shrines, symbolizing the five elements.
