Enter through the 72-meter Rajagopuram (tallest in Asia) into the outer (7th) prakaram, which functions as a living town with shops and homes.
Walk inward through the concentric prakarams, passing through ornate gopurams. The outer prakarams have shops, homes, and offices; inner ones are increasingly sacred.
Reach the main sanctum in the innermost prakaram to see Lord Ranganatha (Vishnu) reclining on the serpent Adishesha. The reclining posture (Bhujanga Sayanam) faces south.
Visit the separate shrine of Goddess Ranganayaki (Sri Devi/Lakshmi), the consort of Lord Ranganatha.
Visit the 1000-pillar mandapam, the Garuda Mandapam, and various sub-shrines including those of Alvars and other Vaishnava saints.
