Bhojeshwar Temple near Bhopal is often called the 'Somnath of the East.' This 11th-century unfinished temple built by King Bhoja of the Paramara dynasty houses one of the largest Shiva Lingams in India, standing 7.5 feet tall with a circumference of 18 feet, placed on a massive 21.5-foot square platform. Despite being incomplete (the roof was never finished, and construction plans are still etched on rocks nearby), the temple is an architectural wonder. The incomplete state actually allows visitors to understand ancient Indian temple construction techniques from the preserved blueprints carved into nearby rocks.
