Mallikarjuna Swamy Temple

Mallikarjuna Swamy Temple in Srisailam is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas and one of the eighteen Shakti Peethas, making it the only temple in India to hold both these sacred distinctions simultaneously. Perched on the Nallamala Hills along the banks of the River Krishna, the temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva as Mallikarjuna and Goddess Parvati as Bhramaramba. The temple's history dates back to the 2nd century, with inscriptions from the Satavahana dynasty period, and the current structure showcases magnificent Vijayanagara-era architecture with intricate carvings and massive stone walls. Adi Shankaracharya composed the Shivananda Lahari here, and the temple is referenced in numerous ancient texts and puranas.
