Amarnath Yatra 2026: Administration Issues Advisory, Asks Unregistered Pilgrims Not to Proceed
9 July 20266 min readDevMarg
The Jammu and Kashmir administration has issued a fresh advisory for the Amarnath Yatra 2026, asking unregistered pilgrims not to proceed towards the yatra route. Devotees have been urged to wait for their confirmed travel date and to strictly follow the registration process and safety guidelines.
Key highlights
The Jammu and Kashmir administration issued a fresh advisory on Wednesday for the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra 2026.
Unregistered pilgrims have been asked not to move towards the yatra route and to wait for their confirmed travel date.
Registered pilgrims cannot travel before the date printed on their permit, even if they reach early.
Tatkal or on-the-spot registration is limited and subject to availability.
A valid RFID card and registration permit remain compulsory to proceed towards the holy cave.
What the New Advisory Says
The administration issued the advisory on Wednesday, 8 July 2026. It reminded devotees that the daily limit on the number of pilgrims, fixed as per the directions of the Supreme Court, remains in force. Because of this limit, every pilgrim must undertake the yatra only on the date mentioned in their permit.
According to the advisory, unregistered pilgrims should not move towards the yatra route. They have been asked to wait for their confirmed travel date instead. Officials also clarified that tatkal or on-the-spot registration is available only in limited numbers and depends on availability.
The advisory made another point clear for registered devotees. Pilgrims who have a valid permit will not be allowed to travel before their scheduled date. Reaching early will not allow early movement towards the holy cave shrine of Baba Barfani.
Why the Advisory Was Issued
The administration acted because a large number of devotees have been arriving in Jammu and Kashmir without valid registration or before their allotted date. Many reached Jammu seeking on-the-spot registration, even while thousands of registered pilgrims with confirmed slots were already waiting in the city.
This rush created logistical challenges and long waiting periods. Officials said the daily ceiling on pilgrim movement is meant to protect the safety of devotees on the high mountain routes and to keep the pilgrimage orderly and smooth.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha reviewed the ground situation of the yatra in a high-level meeting. He appealed to pilgrims who have not yet registered to defer their travel for a few days to avoid inconvenience after reaching Jammu and Kashmir. The administration assured that every registered pilgrim would get a chance to undertake the pilgrimage, in line with the daily capacity and safety guidelines.
Registration and RFID Rules Pilgrims Must Follow
Registration is compulsory for every pilgrim on both the Pahalgam and the Baltal routes. Along with the yatra permit, an RFID card is mandatory. Officials have said that RFID access will be provided only to devotees with confirmed registration slots.
No pilgrim can proceed on the route without a valid registration permit and RFID card.
Registered pilgrims must travel only on the date printed on their permit.
Unregistered pilgrims already in Jammu and Kashmir should wait for their turn and follow the prescribed process.
On-the-spot slots open up mainly through no-shows and remain very limited.

Amarnath Yatra 2026: Dates and Routes
The Amarnath Yatra 2026 began on 3 July and will conclude on 28 August 2026, on the occasion of Shravan Purnima, which coincides with Raksha Bandhan. The pilgrimage runs for 57 days this year.
Devotees travel to the sacred Amarnath Cave, situated at a height of about 3,888 metres in the Himalayas, to have darshan of the naturally formed ice Shivling worshipped as Lord Shiva. There are two routes to the shrine:
Pahalgam route: The longer and traditional path of about 48 kilometres, with a gentler climb through Chandanwari, Sheshnag and Panchtarni.
Baltal route: The shorter path of about 14 kilometres, which is steeper and more demanding.
What Pilgrims Should Do Right Now
Complete your registration and obtain a valid yatra permit before starting your journey to Jammu and Kashmir.
Travel only on the date allotted in your permit. Do not reach early expecting early movement.
Carry your RFID card, CHC and photo ID at all times during the pilgrimage.
Follow the latest advisories from the SASB and local authorities, especially during rain, as monsoon conditions can cause delays on the routes.
Cooperate with officials and maintain discipline to help keep the yatra safe and smooth for everyone.
